Leave town and escape to a quiet tarn

Watendlath is a tiny hamlet – and a beautiful tarn, also called Watendlath – that’s hidden up in the fells between Borrowdale and Thirlmere. You can reach it on foot from Keswick, either via a low route under Falcon Crag (follow signs for Great Wood from Keswick, and further signposts from there), or approach it from above on a longer walk over Bleaberry, High Seat and High Tove fells.
This flexibility makes Watendlath an option whatever the weather – and there’s also a great little tea room that you can cosy up in before heading down into Rosthwaite to catch the 77 bus back to Keswick.
